梁帼英（刘美君）、黄忠信（关礼杰）及蓝祖辉（陈嘉辉），都同拥有高尚职业，表面上都过着一般中产阶级的宽裕而安定的生活，但背后他们却常为金钱及生活而烦恼。信妻蓝祖儿（刘秀萍）因挥霍成性，常令信入不敷支。英为了将来生活安定，终日全神贯注地拼命赚钱，便冷落丈夫曲安源（李国麟），后更由于一次投机失败，把一生积蓄化为乌有。辉亦因为追求名利与物质生活，常与爱侣梁帼凤（袁咏仪）在感情上产生不少磨擦。 在一次偶然机会下，他们顿然拥有横财五千万，但却未能因此而将困境扭转，反而增添更多烦恼困扰。因为祖儿背弃信，挟带私逃；而源抵受不住英利欲熏心，便与大陆女工乐敏（陈慧仪）私奔外地；辉亦因获横财与凤意见不合而分手，甚至连信的表弟黎旭（吴刚）亦无辜涉入旋涡，被歹徒因财而绑架，身陷险境。最后在他们痛定思痛之后，会否为了换回安定的生活而放弃五千万撗财呢？。Jimmy Connors and his girlfriend want to take part in Paul Whiteman's high school bands contest, but they cannot afford the fare.
