该片以民国初年为背景，以丝绸大户张海和他的大掌柜梁金宝之间的恩怨情仇为导火索，上演了张、梁两家两代人之间的命运颠覆和情感悲剧。。方与雄自小在帮会中长大，与帮会老大鲍之女儿莲感情极好，莲则对方有爱意。鲍因年老多病，欲选方为继承人，但遭方拒绝而起误会，赶方出帮，而后立雄为其继承人，女儿莲也嫁给雄。 雄虽当了老大之位，却因好胜居功，不能服众，又遭日本山口组对付。方退出江湖，与丽结婚，在炮竹厂当工人，过着平淡的生活，但另一帮会的伊欲迫方重出江湖，故杀鲍劫莲，展开连场火并。。A cave in of a local canal tunnel under restoration reveals the skeletons of eight individuals. While most of the skeletons are from a cave in when the canal was under construction in the 19th century, one is obviously of a more recent vintage.
